Consumers would rather go online in search for a solicitor

For some people, finding the right solicitor is half the battle. So, how do they find exactly what they are looking for with someone they can trust? Previously consumers would refer to family and friends for referrals but, as our new digital marketing expert Nicole Donald notes following new research outlined below, it seem times are changing as the Internet emerges as the number one resource.

36% of consumers use the Internet to search for their Solicitor

According to recent studies - 36% of consumers use the Internet in search of a solicitor compared to 30% who would prefer to rely on friends or relatives recommendations.

The study of over 2,125 adults was carried out last month by YouGov for online legal information site FindLaw. The results are a significant change from a similar FindLaw survey conducted in 2005, with only seven percent of people stating that they would use the Internet to find a lawyer.

Increasing online visibility for solicitors

The findings continue to reiterate just how important and useful online marketing can be for lawyers and law firms. Of course, that’s not to say that personal referrals aren’t important – they are, however combined with having a strong internet presence and keeping on top of the latest digital trends, law firms can get the best possible results for their business. By adding client testimonials to your website and using Social Media channels effectively, you can fulfil the need for peer reviews’, thus creating a sense of trust between your brand and the consumer. A report by Hinge Marketing – Beyond Referrals: How Today’s Buyers Check You Out – involved 1,000 purchasers of professional services.

The top three results:

  • Look at company website – 80%
  • Search online/Google – 63%
  • Ask friends/colleagues – 62%

The report also found that 70% of those surveyed use LinkedIn to check out a prospective professional services provider. Recommendations from friends and colleagues, while still important to some, are less influential than they once were as shown by these results.
